Troubleshooting Windows OpenVPN Client Connectivity

Historically, OpenVPN clients on Windows had issues with routing due to lack of privileges. Current versions of the OpenVPN client for Windows run as a service which does not require administrative privileges. Older legacy clients may still need such privileges, but in most cases the correct answer is to upgrade OpenVPN.

When installing OpenVPN using the OpenVPN Client Export Package package it will not upgrade an existing instal- lation of OpenVPN. To ensure the client is updated properly, uninstall the old client first.
